1958 - Houston City Directory lists “Village Lounge” at 5607 Morningside (with notation “beer”)

1968 - Houston City Directory lists “Village Lounge” at 5607 Morningside

1975 - Houston City Directory lists “Hi There” at 5607 Morningside

1977-78 Houston City Directory lists “Crees, J.” at 5607 Morningside (with notation “cocktails”)

1980 - Houston City Directory lists “Yester Day in the Villager” at 5607 Morningside (with notation “cocktails”)

1981-82 - Houston City Directory lists “Yesterday’s in the Village” at 5607 Morningside (with notation “cocktails”)

1983-87 - TABC’s online records show a license for “Chugger’s” at 5607 Morningside

1985 - The Ginger Man website says: “The Houston Ginger Man was the first member of the family, and has been serving fine beer since 1985.”

1987 - Oldest license in TABC’s online records for “Gingerman” at 5607 Morningside (which show a continuous license for same through present)

  1. I went to Chugger’s in 1984. It was run by a former secretary of one of the residential colleges at Rice. The Ginger Man opened the summer I graduated from Rice (1985).
